(A poem for burning churches)
Tell me once again
“You Shouldn’t Eat Wheat!”
Tell me once again.
“You shouldn’t eat cheese!”
Tell me once again.
“You shouldn’t eat sugar.”
Tell me once again.
“Drink more water!”
What is wrong with my hearing?
Good thing I wasn’t raised in the South.
Reflection: Seven black churches are burning in the distance. All over the world there are places that clamor for the food I eat too much of. All over the world there are people for whom my one bedroom apartment would look like a palace with running water, refrigerator, big light giving windows. and air conditioning. Tell me once again, how it is.
